“Yash Chopra said I could have become Madhuri Dixit,” revealed Bhumika Chawla

Bhumika Chawla, who is known for her act in the Salman Khan starrer Tere Naam, is in the news currently for two reasons. She recently made a comeback in Bollywood with her Tere Naam co-star Salman in Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, although she wasn’t cast opposite him. The other reason being her candid and no-holds-barred YouTube interview with Siddharth Kannan.

“Yash Chopra said I could have become Madhuri Dixit,” revealed Bhumika Chawla

She revealed in the chat about her memorable meet with the late legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra once. She said that during their meet, she was constantly looking at the time. “He (Chopra) asked ‘Are you in a hurry? Are you bored sitting with an old man?’ I felt so embarrassed, and I said, ‘Sir, I am taking your time and I’m feeling bad about it.’ He said, ‘Don’t worry about it.’”

Bhumika further revealed that Yash Chopra wasn’t happy with she getting married (with Bharat Thakur in 2007) so early as he felt that she had the potential to become a star actress. She said, “He asked, ‘Why did you get married?’ I said, ‘I did it.’ He asked me about my husband, and I told him. He said, ‘Tum toh Madhuri Dixit ban jaati (You could have become the next Madhuri Dixit).’ I said, ‘Sir, you said it and I am it.’ Just the fact that he said it, for me, that was a big reward, award or whatever you can call it.”

In the same interview, Bhumika also revealed that she was signed for Jab We Met initially but circumstances ensured that she couldn’t do the film. Kareena Kapoor Khan bagged the role later and made the character of Geet iconic.
